Kay's Old Fashioned Recipe

Kay's Old Fashioned Recipe

When it comes to winding down after a long day or adding a touch of elegance to a cozy night in, few things hit quite like a well-made Old Fashioned. It’s smooth, strong, and surprisingly simple—with just enough room to make it your own. Today I’m sharing my personal take on this timeless cocktail featuring one of my favorite whiskeys: Sir Davis.

Whether you’re hosting friends or treating yourself, this Old Fashioned recipe is effortlessly chic and deeply satisfying.

My Signature Old Fashioned Recipe

What You’ll Need:

2 oz Sir Davis whiskey

Ice (a large cube if you want to be fancy)

Sweetener of choice (I love using simple syrup; agave is okay too)

A few dashes of Angostura bitters

Cherry

Orange peel, for that fresh and zesty garnish

How to Make It:

1. Start with your sweetener. Add about ½ tsp of simple syrup or agave to your glass.

2. Add a dash of complexity. Drop in a few dashes of Angostura bitters and swirl to mix.

3. Cool it down. Add a big ice cube or several smaller ones—whatever you have on hand.

4. Pour in the good stuff. Add 2 oz of Sir Davis whiskey.

5. Stir gently. Let everything marry together with a few slow turns of your bar spoon.

6. Garnish with an orange peel and a cherry. Give it a little twist over the drink to release the oils, then drop it in.

Why I Love This Drink

There’s something nostalgic and grounding about an Old Fashioned. It’s a cocktail that doesn’t rush you—it invites you to slow down and savor. Sir Davis whiskey brings warmth and depth, and the orange peel adds just the right pop of brightness. The sweetness is up to you, which makes this drink totally customizable to your mood.

This is more than just a drink—it’s a vibe. Whether I’m celebrating a small win, doing chores with a playlist in the background, or curling up with a good book, this cocktail sets the tone just right.
