Movie Review: I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025)

Let me be real with y’all—I really wanted to love this movie from the jump, but the beginning tested every ounce of my patience. The first 20–30 minutes were rough. The acting didn’t quite land, and a lot of the early scenes felt like they needed a few more takes.

I kept watching, and I’m glad I did, because the middle to end of the film redeemed it in a big way. Once the story started moving and the real tension kicked in, it got way more fun to watch. The suspense, the reveals, the little twists—it all came together nicely. You could tell the writers and director had a real vision for the payoff, even if the buildup was shaky.

Now let’s talk about the real stars of the show: the OG cast. Seeing some of the original characters return? That was everything. Their presence brought so much more depth and nostalgia. It grounded the movie in a way the newer cast just couldn’t quite do on their own. I’m not gonna lie—I got a little hype when certain faces showed up on screen. If you grew up watching the original I Know What You Did Last Summer films, this part alone makes the 2025 version worth it.

Overall, this movie is a mixed bag. The beginning had me skeptical, and the acting in certain scenes could’ve used more polish. But the second half delivered on suspense and nostalgia, which made it a decent watch in the end. Not the strongest reboot, but definitely not the worst.

Would I recommend it? If you’re a fan of the franchise, yes—but manage your expectations. Grab your popcorn, power through the awkward start, and enjoy the throwbacks when they hit. It’s one of those movies that gets better as it goes, and sometimes that’s enough to make it a worthwhile ride.
