Movie Review: M3GAN 2.0
Rating: 8/10
On Tuesday, June 24th, I had the chance to attend an advanced screening of M3GAN 2.0, thanks to Jessica Knapik from the What’s Up Weirdo podcast. Jessica not only hosted the showing but also made the night extra fun with audience trivia that brought out the true horror fans in the room. The energy was great, and the crowd was clearly ready for Megan’s next move. The film officially hits theaters Friday, June 27th—but I couldn’t wait to share my thoughts.
Overall, I really liked M3GAN 2.0. The beginning was a slow build, which at times tested my patience. It spends a lot of time laying the groundwork for what’s to come, and while that helps set the emotional tone and expands on the tech-driven themes, it drags a bit. If you're someone who enjoys suspenseful setups and long-form tension, you might appreciate the careful pacing. But for me, it could’ve gotten to the meat of the story a little sooner.
That said—the middle and end more than make up for it. Once the plot kicks into gear, the tempo is fantastic. It’s gripping, stylish, and at times downright unsettling. The film stays true to the creepy, uncanny vibe of the original but upgrades Megan’s personality and tech. She’s more advanced, more aware, and even more unpredictable, making for some tense and exciting moments.
There’s a slick, futuristic quality to the visuals and sound design that makes the horror hit harder. The film also continues its clever commentary on AI, parenting, and overreliance on technology—without getting too preachy. Performances are solid all around, with standout scenes whenever Megan takes center stage (or screen).
What I enjoyed most was that the movie doesn’t try to completely outdo the first—it evolves it. M3GAN 2.0 feels like a natural next chapter, one that builds momentum and leaves the door wide open for what might come next. Fans of the original won’t be disappointed, and new viewers will find enough context to enjoy the ride.
Final verdict: 8/10. A slightly slow start, but the thrilling payoff makes it well worth it. Megan’s back—and she’s even sharper.
